A drawing of the White Tower from the river Thames showing the Traitors’ gate in the foreground (now bricked up). The Tower which dominates the overall castle was built in1078 by William the Conqueror and has served many purposes through history, from royal residence to a prison. It currently holds the Crown Jewels of England.
