This watercolour was painted from the cliff path looking North Eastwards towards Soldiers Bay and Clarence Battery. The Island of Herm is on the horizon.
Clarence battery was built in 1780 during the French revolution and is the only remaining part of Fort George. During WW2 it was used by the German occupying forces as part of the Luftwaffe’s early warning system.
