The drawing shows one of the old traditional fishing boats, the “Coble”. Up until the end of the 20 century, Staithes was an important fishing centre with up to 80 boats operating.It was also the home of James Cook(later captain Cook) in the mid 18 century, and doubtless the place where he gained his appetite for seafaring.
